Greenlee School Continues to Report High Job Placement Rates

A jobs placement report for 2015-16 shows that each degree offered by the Greenlee School, including the master’s in journalism and mass communication, enjoyed an exceptionally high rate of employment within six months of commencement.

Undergraduate rates in Advertising, Journalism and Public Relations now average 97.6%, up from 95% reported in the 2014-15 academic year.

Fifty-eight out of 60 Advertising graduates responded to the annual survey, with a 98% placement rate and with 35 of those alumni working in Iowa.

Sixty-six out of 71 Journalism graduates responded, with a 97% placement rate and with 33 of those alumni remaining in the state.

Sixty-one of 64 Public Relations graduates responded, with a 98% placement rate and with 33 of those alumni remaining in the state.

Twenty-two of 22 Master’s students responded, with a 95% placement rate.

Average starting salaries in Advertising ranged from a high of $50,000 and low of $28,000 with an average $35,250.

Average starting salaries in Journalism ranged from a high of $38,000 to a low of $14,000 with an average $29,653.

Average starting salaries in Public Relations ranged from a high of $48,000 to a low of $25,000 with the average at $36,800.

The top 10 major employers of Iowa State graduates included Wells Fargo (1st place), Meredith Corporation (3rd place) and Des Moines Register (6th place).

Michael Bugeja, director, credits the high placement rates to the dedication of the faculty and staff in open-door advising, regular career fairs, alumni networking and 400-hour internship requirements, among the most rigorous in the country.
