Greetings prospective students!
Thank you for expressing interest in the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication, one of the best journalism and communication programs in the country. I am honored to direct this program and to help our teachers, practitioners and researchers train, educate and enlighten the next generation of journalists and communicators.
At the Greenlee School, we teach students to generate factual content that serves the public, from voter to consumer. Our students have the opportunity to learn about and gain hands-on experience in advertising, public relations, broadcasting, magazines, newspapers, photojournalism, design, multimedia and something few other schools offer–science communication. We are also home to a rigorous, streamlined curriculum that will save you money and help you graduate in four years, and our generous scholarships will help ensure that you have the support you need to finance your education.
If you become one of our majors, you will be studying and practicing journalism, advertising and communication with some of the most accomplished students in the country. Our independent student newspaper, the Iowa State Daily, consistently is ranked as the best or in the top 10 such publications in the nation and many of our other organizations win national awards or compete for them with other top schools.
You’ll cap your education here with an internship working for such companies as MTV, 20/20, Jimmy Kimmel Live, ESPN, Better Homes and Gardens, Des Moines Register, Lee Enterprises, Scripps, CNN, Sports Illustrated, USA Today, KCCI, WHO, Weber Shandwick, Edelman and dozens of other community, regional and national outlets.
Do you want to tell us about your career aspirations in person? Schedule a prospective student visit. Just go to the Admissions website https://www.admissions.iastate.edu/visit/calendar.php and start the process for becoming a Cyclone journalist, communicator or advertiser!
You’re on the first rung of your ladder to success. There are three more: apply, accept, and commit to the Greenlee School.
